Sandra Starke MSc PhD MBA

Sandra’s work has been at the forefront of lameness research for many years. Alongside her fundamental biomechanics research, she has been driving new scientific thinking around conceptual physics modelling of lameness and understanding visual perception of movement abnormalities through eye tracking. In parallel, together with the RVC’s Gregory Miles and Stephen May, she developed the free, web-based 3D animation game ‘lamenesstrainer.com’ to great acclaim, equipping learners with accurate visual lameness assessment skills within hours. After studying and working in academia for nearly a decade, Sandra stepped into human healthcare as the CSO for a low vision start up, followed by an MBA and move to a research and technology organisation where she still works today. Sandra holds a BSc in Biomimetics (first), MSc in Biomechanics (distinction) and PhD in equine lameness detection. She remains connected to the field through ongoing publications, most notably collaborations with Maarten Oosterlinck that included new studies and co-authoring a book chapter.
