Working as an equine vet can be very rewarding - but it also brings its fair share of pressure and stress. This is why BEVA Congress is including a raft of daily initiatives to help delegates pause, take a breath and prioritise their own wellbeing.
“Mental health and wellbeing are lynchpins to help achieve a good work life balance as a busy equine vet,” said Jocelyn Thompson, Partnership and Events Manager at BEVA. “This year at BEVA Congress we are offering more ‘down time’ and get-together opportunities than ever.”
In partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim, BEVA has created a Mindfulness Lounge and a programme of Wellness Sessions, offering calm, welcoming areas to reset and recharge. Whether delegates wish to join a guided session or simply take a moment to relax and recentre in the quiet lounge, it’s open to everyone.
Highlights:
Mindfulness Lounge – Executive Room 8, ICC
Mindful Morning Yoga – Hall 8B, ICC, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 07:00–07:45
Slow Wind-Down Yoga – Hall 8B, ICC, Thursday and Friday, 17:45–18:15
(yoga sessions can be booked in advance – limited availability)
Guided Meditation Sessions – Thursday and Friday at lunch in the Mindfulness Lounge – no booking necessary just drop by.
Massage Station – BEVA Trust Stand (D44). Enjoy the ‘Feel Good, Do Good’ massage chair for a moment of calm during a busy congress day
RunBEVA – Outside the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Thursday and Friday mornings, 06:30 – Shake off the cobwebs with a friendly early-morning run, jog, or walk through the streets of Birmingham.
Dr. Clare Turnbull, Equine Business Head at Boehringer Ingelheim said: “At Boehringer Ingelheim we are proud to support the well-being of horses and the people who care for them. Life as an equine vet is incredibly rewarding but also very demanding, and so we are delighted to be sponsoring the Mindfulness Lounge at BEVA Congress this year. We hope that this space will help delegates to relax and recharge during the event.”
Delegates can sign up to the yoga sessions here.
The VetLife stand in the exhibition hall (stand A9) also offers independent, confidential and free support.

Supporting the next generation
Companies and individuals are supporting the next generation through a range of initiatives to make Congress even more accessible this year.
Free student accommodation: Altano, a first-time exhibitor, is helping students stretch their budgets by offering free Thursday night accommodation to 10 lucky winners.
Free three-day student ticket and accommodation: BEVA offered students the chance to attend Congress at no cost, and Kinga Kuberek was selected as the winner from over 40 applicants. This opportunity was made possible by the generosity of a course speaker who donated their fee to support the initiative. Kinga said: “I can’t wait to take part in the BEVA 2025 Congress — a unique opportunity to learn, connect, meet great people and be inspired. The programme is packed with remarkable sessions. My top choices are Foals, Reproduction, and Ophthalmology, but I’m determined to experience as many as I can. I am deeply honoured to have been selected as the student winner. Counting down the days - less than a month to go!”
VetPartners is inviting all students to their social event on Thursday evening (19:30–22:00 at O’Neill’s Broad Street).
Delegates at BEVA Congress will have access to more than 90 hours of live and on-demand CPD. It will cover almost every aspect of equine medicine, surgery and practice, via presentations, interactive discussions, debates and workshops. This year’s theme ‘Use it wisely or lose it forever’ brings an antimicrobial focus to several sessions as well as a dedicated section on antimicrobial stewardship.
BEVA members prices for a three-day pass are £699 for vets and £273 for vet nurses for all three days (with concessionary available for those in their first three years of graduation or earning less than £25,000). Day tickets and practice passes are also available.
