Jane Devaney

Jane Devaney eRVN 


Jane started her career as a receptionist in a First Opinion Small Animal Practice in 1995. She took a position as a trainee nurse shortly after and qualified as an RVN in 2000. 


She joined Leahurst in 2001 and completed the Equine Nursing qualification 18 months later. She was Head Nurse for 22 years and is now Senior Clinical Nurse for the quieter life. 


She was the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Golden Jubilee Award Winner 2019 for her years of teaching vet students, which she is still passionate about. 


Jane has been married for 38 years and enjoys spending time with her family including three grandchildren.  


She loves travel (who doesn’t) both in the UK and abroad. When not working and holidaying she volunteers for British Eventing and many weekends are taken up by being groom, transporter and course walker for her granddaughter who competes her Connemara pony. 


Jane has two horses, four dogs, and a geriatric cat and breeds border terriers for a laugh! 


Jane’s publications include Equine Wounds –An Insight into Wound Dressings used in the Management of Traumatic wounds in Equine Patients” in the Vet Times alongside Mel Packer RCVS, and is a co-author of “BSAVA Textbook of Veterinary Nursing 5th Edition 2010 “Animal handling and restraint” and “Maintaining animal accommodation” and “Textbook of Equine Nursing” 2025 “Biosecurity and Infection control”. 


She has presented “Nursing complications with IV catheters” at BEVA Congress 2009 and chaired the Nursing Session at BEVA Congress 2011.
