Tamzin Furtado BSc(hons) PhD PGCAP
Tamzin is a social scientist with a background in global health, and has a specific interest in the interconnections between human and animal health and wellbeing. She completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool studying how we can improve the management of obesity in horses, particularly focusing on horse-human relationships and human behaviour change. She now works on projects covering a wide range of aspects of understanding human behaviour in order to improve companion animal welfare, and in using social sciences to find out more about how we can help people to change.

Kirsty Gallacher BVMS DipACT MRCVS
Kirsty graduated from the University of Glasgow (2006) and then ventured to Australia to do an equine internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. She completed a Theriogenology residency at Cornell University (2012) and became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists. She has worked multiple stud seasons in the USA, Australia, and the UK. Her last role was working at Adelaide University as an equine reproduction lecturer and clinician and doing a part-time PhD on the topic of equine uterine health and advanced imaging modalities. She made her way back to Glasgow and joined the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Equine Hospital and Practice in 2022.

James Given BVetMed MRCVS
James spent a year working at the Royal Veterinary College in London after graduation, followed by three and a half years in practice before joining a racehorse trainer as his resident vet and assistant trainer for a further three years. After a month on a travel scholarship working in Dubai, he started training in his own right for the next 22 years. He joined the British Horseracing Authority in January 2021 in his current role as Director of Equine Regulation, Safety and Welfare and is a founder member of both the BHA's Ethics Committee and British racing's Horse Welfare Board.

Dylan Gorvy BSc BVSc Cert(ES) Soft Tissue PhD Dipl ECVS
European Specialist in Equine Surgery

Dylan studied veterinary science at Bristol University, graduating in 1998. Following an internship in equine surgery at the Royal Veterinary College in London, he moved to Manchester where he investigated the role of growth factors in abdominal adhesion formation. After completing his PhD in 2003, he undertook a three-year surgical residency at Liverpool University, before moving to Sweden with his wife and three children. He is currently head of equine surgery at the veterinary school in Uppsala. He is a recognised European specialist in equine surgery, having obtained the Diploma in 2008 (Dipl. ECVS). He has lectured internationally on equine wound management.
