Andy Fiske-Jackson BVSc MVetMed FHEA DipECVS MRCVS Andy graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2004 and worked for the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad for the following three months. He then worked in mixed practice in Somerset. In July 2006 he undertook an eighteen-month internship at the Liphook Equine Hospital followed by a six-month ambulatory position. He then completed a three-year equine surgery residency and a Masters in Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College. He took up the position of staff clinician in equine surgery in February 2012, becoming a lecturer in 2014, a senior lecturer in 2017, Associate Professor in Equine Surgery in 2021 and Professor of Equine Surgery and Orthopaedics in 2025. He became Head of RVC Equine in 2025. He is an RCVS and European Specialist in Equine Surgery with a particular interest in the use of the objective gait analysis system and the work-up of poor performance cases.

Emily Floyd, BVSc, CertAVP(VD), DACVIM, MRCVS, RCVS Recognised Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine Emily graduated from the University of Bristol in 2003. She completed a residency in large animal internal medicine at UC Davis and became a Diplomate of the American College of Large Animal Internal Medicine. She works as a clinical director at Rossdales Equine Hospital in Newmarket. She enjoys all areas of internal medicine but has special interests neonatology and dermatology.

Tamzin Furtado BSc(hons) PhD PGCAP Tamzin is a social scientist with a background in global health, and has a specific interest in the interconnections between human and animal health and wellbeing. She completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool studying how we can improve the management of obesity in horses, particularly focusing on horse-human relationships and human behaviour change. She now works on projects covering a wide range of aspects of understanding human behaviour in order to improve companion animal welfare, and in using social sciences to find out more about how we can help people to change.

Kirsty Gallacher BVMS DipACT MRCVS Kirsty graduated from the University of Glasgow (2006) and then ventured to Australia to do an equine internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. She completed a Theriogenology residency at Cornell University (2012) and became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists. She has worked multiple stud seasons in the USA, Australia, and the UK. Her last role was working at Adelaide University as an equine reproduction lecturer and clinician and doing a part-time PhD on the topic of equine uterine health and advanced imaging modalities. She made her way back to Glasgow and joined the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Equine Hospital and Practice in 2022.

Eleanor Girgis, BVM&S PGC (clinical animal behaviour), AFHEA MRCVS Eleanor graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2021 and has since gained a broad experience in providing for both the physical, emotional and behavioural needs of her patients in a variety of settings, including within equine hospitals, first opinion ambulatory settings, and within equine charity practice. Eleanor completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Animal Behaviour in 2024 and is now undertaking a residency in Equine Behavioural Medicine at the University of Edinburgh Equine Hospital, where she is training under the supervision of Dr Gemma Pearson. Eleanor’s particular areas of interest are the provision of low stress veterinary care, the relationship between pain and behaviour and human behaviour change for animal welfare. She also has a strong interest in research, with her first study focusing on how equestrian’s understanding of learning theory relates to their response to problematic behaviour, and an ongoing project exploring the complex link between pain and behaviour

James Given BVetMed MRCVS James spent a year working at the Royal Veterinary College in London after graduation, followed by three and a half years in practice before joining a racehorse trainer as his resident vet and assistant trainer for a further three years. After a month on a travel scholarship working in Dubai, he started training in his own right for the next 22 years. He joined the British Horseracing Authority in January 2021 in his current role as Director of Equine Regulation, Safety and Welfare and is a founder member of both the BHA's Ethics Committee and British racing's Horse Welfare Board.
