Mark Bowen BVetMed MMedSci(MedEd) PhD CertVA CertEM(IntMed) DipACVIM, DipECEIM, DipECVSMR, PFHEA, FRCVS Mark Bowen is a past president of BEVA and pioneer and author of BEVA�s PROTECT ME Toolkit. He is an independent internal medicine specialist offering peripatetic and in-yard specialist care in equine cardiology and all other aspects of internal medicines, dermatology and ophthalmology. Mark is also chair of the HBLB Codes of Practice committee and a member of its veterinary advisory committee, a member of the VMDs Veterinary Products Committee and a consultant for Dechra Veterinary Products. Mark is also the Director of Education in EBVS where he champions specialist education and assessment across EBVS�s 27 specialist colleges.

Browning

Penny

Biography
Penny Browning RVN MRCVS BAEDT Penny has been part of the team at Cliffe Equine Hospital for over three decades, beginning her career there in 1994. During her early years at the hospital she developed extensive experience in equine nursing and went on to serve as Head Nurse for ten years, playing a key role in supporting both the veterinary team and the training of nursing staff. In 2007, Penny expanded her professional focus by qualifying as an Equine Dental Technician after successfully passing the BEVA/BVDA examinations. Since then, she has dedicated her career solely to equine dentistry, building a wealth of practical experience and a strong reputation in the field. Alongside her clinical work, Penny is passionate about education and professional development within the industry. She has mentored several apprentices over the years and is actively involved in helping other equine dental technicians prepare for their professional examinations. She particularly enjoys supporting candidates through exam preparation and contributing to the continued development of high standards within equine dentistry.

Brown

Liz

Biography
Liz Brown MA VetMB CertVA CertEP MRCVS Liz qualified from Cambridge University and subsequently worked in equine hospital and ambulatory practice in Leicestershire, Sussex and Lambourn, working with racing and sports horses. In 2014 she established her own practice focusing on sports horses. Liz was appointed as team vet to the British Eventing team in 2009, and works with the UK Sport World Class Programme to prepare successful teams for Olympic Games and championships. She has travelled extensively with British competitors, including to Olympic Games in Hong Kong, London, Rio, Tokyo and Paris and with multiple gold medal winning teams at European and World Championships. Highlights for the team include winning Team Gold at the Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games. Lizs practice work is primarily orthopaedics, diagnostic imaging, sports medicine and prepurchase examinations. Her interests are management and training of the sports horse to promote health, optimise performance, and prevent injury; and to educate & work with riders, grooms, coaches & stakeholders to help build a successful culture that prioritises horse welfare.

Bruford

Rebecca

Biography
Rebecca Bruford BSc (Hons), NCert (Anaesth), RVN A Registered Veterinary Nurse since 2014, she has spent her career working within an equine referral setting and is currently Head Nurse at the University of Liverpool�s Leahurst Equine Hospital. She has a particular interest in anaesthesia and holds a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (NCert) in Anaesthesia and Analgesia. Her role combines both clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, reflecting her passion for advancing standards within equine practice. She has also contributed to the development of equine nursing within CVS and BEVA. Alongside her clinical work, she enjoys organising and supporting veterinary events, alongside FEI, The BHA and The Jockey Club. Outside of work, she stays busy with her working cocker spaniel.

Burger

Dominik

Biography
Dominik Burger PD DVM Dominik graduated from the University of Berne in 1988. From 1992 to 2011 he was based at the Swiss National Stud in Avenches, responsible for the Research Program and the Clinic with its ambulatory service at the racetrack of IENA. Since 2012, he works in the ISME of the University of Berne combining the equine clinics in Berne and Avenches, where he habilitated in 2019 with the topic "Reproductive Strategies in the Horse". As an ex-eventing rider Dominik retains a strong interest in sport horses and holds the position of the Chef d�Equipe of the Swiss Eventing Team.

Burrows

Imogen

Biography
Dr Imogen Burrows BVetMed CertAVP(EM) PgCertVPS MRCVS Imogen is an equine veterinary surgeon and RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Medicine at Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic in Kent. She graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2000 and has worked in equine practice throughout her career, obtaining Advanced Practitioner status in 2014. She also gained her post graduate certificate in veterinary professional studies and stud medicine certificate in 2023. Her clinical interests focus on equine internal medicine and promoting high standards of welfare and evidence-based practice in equine veterinary medicine. Alongside her clinical role, she is actively involved in professional development and education within the veterinary profession. Dr Burrows contributes to undergraduate veterinary teaching, acts as a VetGDP adviser supporting newly graduated veterinarians, and serves as an assessor for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Advanced Practitioner programme. She has been actively involved with the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), serving on Council and as Chair of the Ethics and Welfare Committee, and in 2025 she was appointed President of BEVA for the 2025 2026 term, where she has focused on listening to members and encouraging discussions around welfare-led approaches to equine veterinary care.
