Biography
Ian Beamish BVetMed CertAVP(VDI) MRCVS Ian qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and moved to Newmarket, where he undertook a two-year internship at Greenwood Ellis (Newmarket Equine Hospital). On completing the internship, Ian worked in New Zealand before joining Baker McVeigh in South Africa. After two years in South Africa, Ian returned to the UK with his wife Laura, spending a year driving their Land Rover home. Ian worked in Chantilly before returning to Newmarket and then moved to Baker McVeigh in Lambourn in 2016. Orthopaedics, sports medicine and rehabilitation of the equine athlete are his areas of interest. As a member of BEVA Council Ian has a keen interest in moving the profession forwards as it evolves at a faster rate than ever.

Thomas Beeston BVM&S PgCertVAA AFHEA DVetMed DipECVAA MRCVS Tom is an EBVS and RCVS recognised specialist in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia.? He grew up in North Wales, and qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2005. For 9 years he worked in farm and equine practice in Lancashire, then the Scottish Borders. Following this, he spent time working as a small animal vet in Wales and Scotland. In 2017 he completed an internship in anaesthesia at the University of Liverpool, followed by a residency, and then a lectureship, in anaesthesia and analgesia at the University of Edinburgh. He currently works as a lecturer in equine anaesthesia at the University of Liverpool, gaining his diploma in 2024.? He has an interest in human factors and performance during anaesthesia.

Alison Bennell BVMS CertAVP(EM) (VA) MSc DipECVAA FHEA MRCVS Alison graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2007 and initially completed a 12-month equine internship in the South of England. She then worked for 9 years in a referral practice in Devon where she carried out first opinion equine work as well as leading the anaesthesia and medicine caseloads. She holds the RCVS Advanced Practitioner certificates in Equine Medicine and Veterinary Anaesthesia. She is a diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and is a RCVS recognised Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. Alison was appointed as a Lecturer in Equine Anaesthesia in 2017 and Senior Lecturer in 2022 and she is the Head of Equine Anaesthesia at the University of Liverpool.

Andrea

Biography
Andrea Bischofberger PD Dr. med. vet. PhD, Dipl. ACVS & ECVS, Dipl. ECVDI Dr. Andrea Bischofberger earned her veterinary degree from the University of Zurich in 2004, followed by a doctorate. She completed internships at the University of Bern and Chino Valley Equine Hospital in California, then a residency in equine surgery at the University of Sydney. She is board certified in large animal surgery by the ACVS and ECVS. After returning to Switzerland in 2012, she served as an equine emergency surgeon at the University of Bern before spending ten years as an equine surgeon at the University of Zurich, where she also completed her PhD and habilitation. Dr. Bischofberger is currently an ECVDI certified large animal radiologist at the University of Zurich. She has been part of this team since 2022. This is also where she completed her specialty training.

Bruce Bladon BVM&S Cert EP DESTS Dipl ECVS FRCVS Bruce graduated from Edinburgh University in 1988. He was Resident in Equine Surgery at Bristol University then returned to Donnington Grove Veterinary Group in 1998, where he stayed until 2025. He was awarded ECVS Diploma in 2001 and?RCVS Fellowship in 2016. Bruce was Emergency Services Team Leader at the Rio Olympics and Hangzhou Asian games. He has lectured extensively including to the New Zealand, South African, Australian Equine Veterinary Associations.? Bruce is now on the scrap heap of life. His time in an operating theatre or looking at black and white images has gone. He is an eco warrior who drives a zero emissions vehicle. He squeezes in the occasional ski trip and is a low level rugby referee. He is 73.0kg, BMI 23.1 body fat 21%.?

Boswell

Biography
Dr Jane Boswell MA VetMB CertVA CertES (Orth) DipECVS MRCVS is an RCVS- and ECVS-recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery. Jane graduated from Cambridge University and after completing an internship and residency in equine surgery at the Royal Veterinary College, she joined Liphook Equine Hospital in 2000, later becoming a Partner and Clinical Director. Her clinical interests include equine orthopaedics, colic surgery and advanced diagnostic imaging, particularly MRI in the investigation and management of lameness. In 2025, she moved from clinical practice to join the Veterinary Defence Society as a Claims Consultant.
