Roxane Kirton BVMS MSc MRCVS Roxane is a 2005 University of Glasgow graduate and, after a short spell in small animal practice, moved into the equine welfare sector in 2007. She worked at Redwings Horse Sanctuary as a Welfare Vet for over a decade before moving to the RSPCA where she is currently the Head Equine Vet. While at Redwings, Roxane earned a Master's in Clinical Animal Behaviour from the University of Lincoln, following which she started an equine veterinary behaviour referral service which she runs in her spare time. She is thrilled that clinical behaviour is becoming increasingly popular, with two streams focused on the topic this year.

Tim Knott BSc (hons) BVSc Cert Vet Ophth MRCVS Tim graduated from Bristol University Vet School in 1995, joining the Rowe Veterinary Group in Gloucestershire (UK) where he still works today. He spent his first 10 years in mixed practice being the James Herriot Vet he always wanted to be, however he always had an interest in ophthalmology. After obtaining his RCVS certificate in ophthalmology in 2000 he started the Rowe Referrals Ophthalmology service and its companion service, the Equine Eye Clinic. Always enjoying teaching, he returned to Bristol University as an honorary lecturer in Veterinary Ophthalmology where he taught first day skills and delivered the lecture course for many years. He was on the examining team for the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology for its last 6 years and was an active member, and then Chairman, of the British Association of Veterinary Ophthalmologists committee for 20 years. A long standing member of the board of the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium, Tim continues to increase the profile of Equine Ophthalmology both at undergraduate and post graduate level . Tim is passionate about teaching ophthalmology and has a particular interest in making ophthalmic photography accessible to clinicians as a diagnostic tool. His website, www.theeyephone.com, has helped hundreds of clinicians across the globe with practical advice on how to image the eye to help with diagnosis and treatment. He is still actively involved in ophthalmology teaching across the UK, Europe and North America with his constant aim being to demystify ophthalmology and to enthuse practitioners about this very important subject.

Edd Knowles MA VetMB MVetMed PhD DipECEIM MRCVS After a brief stint in small animal practice Edd joined Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic in 2007 as a hospital intern and subsequently as an ambulatory assistant, resident, internal medicine specialist and Head of the Hospital. Whilst at Bell Equine he undertook a PhD in laminitis epidemiology at the RVC and continued to balance clinical practice with research into Atypical Myopathy as a post-doctoral researcher at the RVC. Edd left Bell Equine to join Mars Horsecare and retains strong interests the application of research to improve equine health and welfare.

April Lawson BSc BVSc MSc PhD CertAVP(EM) DipECEIM FHEA MRCVS April graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Veterinary Science (2015) and an intercalated degree in Pathology and Microbiology (2013). She became a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2021 and holds RCVS and European Specialist status. She completed a master’s degree in 2019 and a PhD in 2024 on equine antimicrobial resistance, use, and stewardship, during which she established the Equine Veterinary Surveillance Network (EVSNET). Her research focuses on infectious diseases, parasitology, and antimicrobial resistance. April is a Senior Lecturer in Equine Medicine and Veterinary Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Liverpool.

Emma Lethbridge PhD Part neuroscientist, part horse fanatic, Emma is fascinated by the equine brain and how horses perceive and respond to their world. Emma has 32 years experience with horses, having been lucky enough to have been riding since she was four and to have had four wonderful family horses since the age of 12. Emma has studied horses to master's level, read a degree in neuroscience and obtained a PhD in neuropsychology; she has also ridden in affiliated competitions, worked on professional yards, directed an equine learning centre, taught riding, helped many people with their horse's behaviour and, more importantly than all of that combined, she has come to love equines not for what they can do for us, but for the wonderful creatures they are in their own right.

Kate Loomes BVSc(hons) MSc CertAVP(EP) CertAVP(VA) CertAVP(EM) DipECVAA MRCVS I joined the team at Rainbow Equine Hospital in 2017 to oversee the general anaesthesia and perioperative analgesia provision for surgical and ICU patients. My research interests include intraoperative hypoxaemia, factors affecting recovery quality and more broadly, the prevalence and detection of postoperative complications after general anaesthesia in horses.
