Dr. Nicola Jarvis, BVetMed, CertAVP(EM), CertAVP(ESST), MRCVS Nicola qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London, UK in 1990 and started her career in mixed practice where her passion for equine work began. In 1993 Nicola joined Rossdales Equine Veterinary Surgeons in Newmarket to complete a two year internship and went on to locum at several large equine practices before joining Redwings Horse Sanctuary in 1996. Redwings Horse Sanctuary is equine charity providing a home to over 1,500 horses, donkeys and mules and focuses on rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming and education. Nicola is now Head of Veterinary and Care at the charity working with an experienced team of veterinary surgeons and nurses to provide medical and surgical care for equines at the sanctuary. She gained her certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice in Equine Medicine in 2012 and Equine Surgery Soft Tissue in 2013. Her main interests are nutrition, especially of the older or underweight equine, colic and geriatric medicine.

Milly Jones BSc Hons MSc (Clinical Animal Behaviour) Milly works at the RSPCA where she is leading the evolution of equine welfare and behaviour protocols. After graduating from the University of Lincoln, Milly established MJ Animal Training and Behaviour, focusing on providing practical, evidence-based behavioural support within private practice and the welfare sector. Milly maintains close collaborative relationships with veterinary colleagues, including European Diplomates and Residents in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine. She champions a unified clinical approach, bridging the gap between veterinary and behavioural professions to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care for animals and their caregivers.

Victoria Jux BSc (Hons) BVetMed CertAVP MRCVS Vicky graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013 and has worked exclusively in equine first opinion practice since completing an internship. She holds a postgraduate certificate and is Clinical Director at Stable Close Equine Practice and is also a Board Member of the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS). She has returned to practice twice following maternity leave and now balances part-time clinical leadership with raising children.

Justine Kane-Smyth BVM&S MScR DipECVS FHEA MRCVS Justine graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh in 2007 and initially worked in mixed practice for two years. Following an internship at the Liphook Equine Hospital she returned to Edinburgh to complete an ECVS surgical residency, gaining a master’s by research and European Diploma in surgery. She remained at Edinburgh as locum surgeon for a year. From 2015 to 2020 Justine was a lecturer in equine surgery at the University of Liverpool, working primarily in the equine soft tissue surgery department. She ran the hospital’s referral dentistry service and oversaw the head CT imaging service. Justine then moved to the charity sector, working as part-time Technical Director at The American Fondouk, a nonprofit hospital providing primary and secondary care for working equids in Fez, Morocco. This involved further training of staff and expanding the hospital’s surgical capacity. Justine joined the surgical team at the Sussex Equine Hospital in January 2022 where she provides an advanced dentistry service. Her greatest clinical interests include anything to do with the head…and mules! She remains involved in teaching postgraduate certificate modules in surgery and dentistry with the University of Liverpool. She is an RCVS and EBVS Specialist in Equine Surgery.

Dr Jeremy Kemp-Symonds, BA (Hons), BSc (Hons), MSc, BVMS, PGCHE, MRSB, AFHEA, FRSM, MRCVS Jeremy qualified from the University of Glasgow's Veterinary School, but also holds degrees from the University of Birmingham, Nottingham Trent University and the Royal Veterinary College, London. After working in first opinion equine practice, Jeremy then moved to the world-renowned Animal Health Trust in Newmarket for four years dealing with strangles outbreaks across the UK and assisting with the development of the initial diagnostic serological test. Jeremy is now primarily an equine oncologist, concentrating on the treatment of horses, ponies and donkeys with skin tumours, and he works with numerous equine hospitals, practices and charities across the UK. However, Jeremy has also continued to maintain a strong interest in equine infectious disease and welfare work. As such, he is the Veterinary Advisor for Bransby Horses, one of the UK's largest equine charities, and is also one of the technical team supporting Redwings' annual Strangles Awareness Week campaign. Jeremy is a member of both the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA) and the European Laser Association (ELA); he is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), a member of the Royal Society of Biology (RSB), an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and an Alumni Fellow at Nottingham Trent University. In addition, he is a member of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), the British Veterinary Association (BVA) and is a committee member (and former treasurer) for the BEVA Trust. Jeremy has been delighted to support BEVA over the years with on-line resources related to sarcoids and other skin tumours, has authored and co-authored a considerable number of publications in the UK and Europe related to both equine oncology and infectious disease and has lectured on these subjects across the world.
