Pamela Wilkins

Dr. Pamela Wilkins DVM PhD DACVIM DACVECC 

Dr. Pamela Wilkins joined the faculty of the University of Illinois in 2008 after serving on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center from 1998 to 2008. She has authored or co-authored more than 108 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 150 scientific abstracts, 300 scientific and clinical meeting proceedings, and 140 book chapters, reviews and editorials. Dr. Wilkins has served as Principle Investigator or Co-Investigator on more than 45 grants and contracts. She co-edited the textbooks ‘Equine Emergency and Critical Care’, published in 2015 and ‘Equine Neonatology’ published in 2024. She is an Associate Editor for Equine Veterinary Education Dr. Wilkins has provided more than 380 continuing education lectures in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Chile, England, Ireland, Scotland, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Australia and South Africa. She was honored with the IVECCS 2008 inaugural Equine Educator Award, the 2016 Ira Zaslow Award for Excellence in Service to VECCS, the 2018 World Equine Veterinary Association Boehringer Ingelheim Research Award, the 2019 T. Douglas Byars Equine Emergency & Critical Care Educator of the Year Award and the 2023 ACVIM Specialty Lifetime Achievement Award for Large Animal Internal Medicine. In 2024 she was named the Delores R Pajak Professor of Companion Animal Medicine at the University of Illinois and received the Research Award for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Illinois. Her current research interests include biomarkers of disease and disease severity and Point-of-Care diagnostic tools.
