Lesley Young

Lesley Young BVSc DVA DVC DipECEIM PhD MRCVS 

  

Professor Lesley Young is a Liverpool graduate with RCVS Diplomas in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Cardiology.  She also has PhD from the University of Edinburgh after studying the effects of general anaesthesia on the equine heart using transoesophageal ultrasound.  Thereafter her interest in equine cardiovascular physiology shifted to clinical cardiology of athletic horses and she ran a referral cardiology and sports medicine service at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, making significant contributions to applied clinical research in Thoroughbred and sports horse cardiology during that period.  She became a De facto European Diplomate of Equine Internal Medicine in 2005 and was also recognised by the RCVS as a specialist in Veterinary Cardiology. Since departing the Animal Health Trust in late 2005, she has provided an ambulatory equine cardiology referral and AF transvenous cardioversion service with her colleagues at the Dick Vet, to equine practitioners throughout the UK and Europe.  She was awarded an honorary chair for her work in equine cardiology by the University of Edinburgh in 2016 and was made an honorary member of the British Equine Veterinary Association in 2022.  She has also been both treasurer and chairman of the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society.
